The gaps at the top and bottom of the striker plate were wrong. It would retract ok but often did not return to the full closed position. The moveable part of the latch housing (circled in red in the pic) was really gummed up. There were three areas that needed work.ġ). Both doors close perfectly now and stay closed even when going over railroad tracks or bumps. I believe I have corrected the door adjustment problem I was having. If your door is popping open while driving, you haven't adjusted the door in (toward the inside of the vehicle) far enough. Finally, I dismantled the striker plate assembly and cleaned it within an inch of its life. I could see no wear-the passenger door had very little use over the years. I fought with the same situation on my passenger door. I’ll male sure everything is moving freely and give it a try. The fact that this has just become a problem in the last year makes me wonder if it’s not wear in the striker plate/ wedge. There is also a reference in the Bentley manual. I’ve come to recognise particular spots and corners that cause the door to unlatch… I’ve done the searches, I’ve read the manual - somebody please explain it to me like I’m six years old how to properly adjust the striker plates.ĭo not follow me, for I may not lead. The passenger door flew open going around a bend a couple of days ago and it’s just embarrassing… Luckily no passenger in situ that time but I’m forever having to reach across and try and yank the door fully closed after it’s popped again going over a bump. I would love to see a tutorial on this as I’ve never gotten it right either and it’s one of the last outstanding faults on my car to try and sort out. I’ve adjusted the wedge and the striker plate but I just can’t get it right. ![]() I can get the doors adjusted so that they close nicely but when you are driving and the roads are bumpy, they will spring open to the safety lock position. I am having trouble getting a correct adjustment on both passenger and driver side door striker plates on my 1960 bug.
